Our impact
We would rather publish a small number we can prove than a large one we cannot.
How these totals are counted
We go out every two weeks. Every stop, and what was handed out on it, is recorded on the night, and only once a manager has approved that record is each night published on its own in the outreach history.
The running totals on this page are added up in your browser from those published nights. If none are showing above, either your browser has not added them up — it needs JavaScript to do that — or there was not enough of the record in front of it to total honestly.
Every figure here comes from approved records, and says how sure it is.
What we plan an outreach around, and what one takes in supplies, is on Transparency — a planning example, not a count.
Night by night, every run approved for publication is in the outreach history.
What we will count, and what the words mean
- People met
- People we made contact with. Counted once per stop, estimated in the field.
- People served
- People who received supplies, a referral, or another service. A different number from people met, counted separately.
- Meals handed out
- Individual meals. Not the same as people served — one person may take several, and some people we meet do not want food.
- Resource connections
- Times we connected someone to a service, with recovery counted separately.
These are three different numbers and the system keeps them apart. Reporting meals as people is the most common way an outreach number becomes untrue.
What we will never publish
Camp locations, anything about an individual person, reporter details, or raw field notes. Public numbers are totals, and small numbers in a small area are withheld entirely, because they can identify a place.
